Imagine little Parakeet, Cockatiel or Lovebird shooting hoops like a pro! Or, bowling a strike?

Most bird trick toys are made for medium to large parrots. But, we’ve found a new source for petite and small bird trick toys. Basketball, Bowling and Skeetball. Gosh, your small pet bird just might make the Parrot Olympics cut!

Parrotlets, Parakeets, Cockatiels and Lovebirds can be trained to perform tricks just like their larger cousins. Most people underestimate these tiny, little parrots since they are designated as “beginner” birds. All that really means, is that small pet birds and parrots are not only better domesticated, they of a size that makes troublesome instinctual behaviors much more tolerable! Chatter, nipping and mess.

But, these little pet birds are still pretty darn smart. Did you know that the American Parakeet is one of the best talking parrots around? Or, that the loving Cockatiel is not only a cuddler, but a wonderful whistler and companion. Whatever the species, birds and parrots survive best in a flock. Pet parrots and birds see their guardians as their flock. A well loved parrot that is properly trained using positive bird training techniques will come to crave performing tricks on command simply to entertain and bond with YOU. No matter the size of the little fellow.

That is why we find these new bird trick toys so important. Yes. These bird trick toys are affordable. But, more importantly, this new line of bird trick toys helps the pet bird guardian / owner to experience an unimaginable bond with their pet. And, what more could you ask for a small $5.00 investment?

Don’t be alarmed! Peachy just got a new foraging bird toy from Fun Max. Of course, Peachy always jubilantly volunteers to test out new bird supplies before we place it on www.BirdSupplies.com

Go Nuts Foraging Bird Toy

The Go Nuts Bird Toy is a refillable, foraging toy for parrots. Made from 100% cotton rope, vegetable leather, and peanuts, this 5″ x 4″ bird toy is great for medium to large parrots that love to forage and untie knots. Leather patches have holes that reveal peanuts. But, your parrot has to think and work in order to get at the treats!

To refill, just untie the cotton rope and place nuts inside.

What’s so great about this bird toy, you ask? It makes your parrot forage! Foraging is when your parrot has to use it’s natural, inate behaviors to get at a desired item. In the wild, parrots have to literally problem solve in order to get a meal. With Go Nuts, your parrot has to problem solve how to get the peanuts. Untie knots, squeeze peanuts through the holes, etc. Wanna make it harder? Get some stainless steel screws and nuts at your local hardware store for your parrot manipulate. Or, put a larger, harder shelled nut inside!

We suggest that you purchase extra leather strips if your parrot is like Peachy who loves chomping through leather.

Just as someone into aquariums has to contend with water chemistry and dog owners need to contend with chewing, bird owners have to contend with providing a healthy, stimulating environment for their parrot. Unable to rely on enrichment from Mother Nature, your pet bird relies on you for stimulation. And, if you don’t provide what your parrot needs, he’ll let you know with behaviors like screaming, biting and pulling his feathers.

But you can easily curb annoying parrot tantrums and self-destructive behavior. Sources like Chirp n Squawk Bird Supplies specialize in selling bird toys and parrot accessories that create a stimulating environment for your parrot. The goal is to encourage thinking and exercise to get wanted objects, especially food, shredding and soft wood chipping items.

What is Foraging? We hear a lot about “foraging” these days. Most trusted bird toy manufacturers are getting very saavy as to the importance of providing bird safe foraging toys. Foraging bird toys require your bird to WORK for food, similar to how how he may do in he wild. Non-destructible feeding systems like the Rings of Forture Bird Toy, shown above provide mental and visual stimulation as your parrot aligns a bit of food through a tumble system to capture it at the bottom. Similarly, the Original Forage Feeder, which incidently is a hit with our 8 parrots, consists of three wood blocks with deep holes to insert food. Your parrot has to firstly, figure out that there is indeed food in the hole. Then, he has to chip away at the wood to obtain the desired treat. The manufacturer recommends that you fill the holes to the brim and as your parrot eats away, it realizes that it has to forage to obtain it’s food.

The cool thing is that as as parrots become more popular pets and as we research the mental and physical needs of these beautiful creatures, many trusted bird toy manufactures are creating foraging toys. Keep in mind that in the wild, parrots spend about 70% of their time foraging for food while in a domestic environment, they eat for say, 15-20 minutes. Why not get a bunch of foraging toys and load them with your parrots healthy food. Better yet, check out the Parrot Enrichment Pack at Chirp n Squawk Bird Supplies!
