There are two excellent IATA approved carriers that I’d recommend. It depends on whether the bird will travel in the aircraft cabin or in the cargo section of the plane.

For in cabin, my favorite bird carrier is the Cabin Kennel. This bird carrier fits under the seat of the plane. I recommend the Sky Kennel, 100 for cargo travel. This is a heavy duty bird carrier that meets all of IATA requirements. You can find both of these bird carriers at Chirp n Squawk Bird Supplies. As a matter of fact, this wonderful company offers special parrot airline kit and will even insert the perch for you.

Thanks, GabbyBird

We were at a craft fair when a really nice guy commented on my husbands Macaw t shirt he had on . He told him about Parrot Mountain so we decided to check it out. My Husband was truly in heaven He fell in love with the birds. Hundreds of beautiful parrots and etc. Not only the beautiful birds but the place. Full of flowers and statues , benches etc. You truly felt a sense of peace there. After arriving we found out the guy we talked to was the owner. Thank you so much for opportunity to experience such a sense of beauty and peace.

For instance, the Parrot Fish Diet consists primarily of algae extracted from chunks of coral ripped from a reefwith their beak like mouth. The strange thing is that the Parrot Fish pulverizes the coral with grinding teeth in it’s throat to get to the algae-filled polyps inside. But, it’s front teeth are shaped somewhat like a parrot beak. And, the sand in the Parrot Fishes environment is actually the ground-up, undigested coral they excrete. A study in Bermuda estimated that parrotfish create a ton of sand per acre of coral reef per year.

Then, there is a weird gender issue. A Parrot Fish can actually change its gender repeatedly throughout its life. Some male parrot fish maintain harems of females. Then, if the dominant male dies, one of the females will change gender and color to become the dominant male. Not only that. Parrot fish can change their coloration and patterns varying greatly, even between the males, females, and juveniles of the same species.

Parrot Fish are omnivores. They range from 1′ – 4′ depending on the species. Because of their ability to change colors and patterns throughout their life, scientist are unsure about how many sub-species of parrot fish there are.

Funny Parrot Fish Picture

Perhaps the fact that Parrot Fish have pajama’s is the weirdest thing of all. Every night, certain species of parrot fish secrete an unusual mucus from an organ in thei head to clothe themselves in a transparent cocoon made of mucous. Scientists hypothesize that the cocoon masks their scent, making them harder for nocturnal predators, such as moray eels.

So, what does this Chirp have to do with parrots? Ummm. Well, they are both colorful creatures from tropical areas that have beautiful coloration.

We had a fun little outing today at Tanganyika Wildlife Park in Goddard, KS. About 10 minutes from my home. We got to see white tigers, Colous Monkeys, Red Panda’s, Clouded Leopards Red Kangaroo’s and a host of other animals, some displayed in interactive exhibits. Of course, my favorite exhibit was the interactive Lorikeet’s.

There were 4 species of Lories in the exhibit. Rainbow, Purple-capped, Blue Mountain and Scarlett. The kids sure got a kick out of feeding them nectar. I’m wondering if it is our popular Goldenfeast NectarGold?!

Oh, BTW, Joe has promised to build me an outdoor aviary like this. OMG. I think it was about 40′ x 20′. Definately bigger than my current bird room! Really, I don’t think I want a permanent structure. I’ve got my eye on some outdoor aviaries at www.CagesByDesign.com I like the break down concept so that I can break them down to protect them from winter elements. Since SpringAir now has Mosquito Traps, I’ll worry less about West Nile Virus.

The American paradise! All I can say is BEAUTIFUL. This place is teaming with beauty. I know. Everyone thinks of beach. Snorkeling. Scuba. San Juan. I thought rainforests and the only parrot indigenous to the U.S. The Puerto Rican Parrot.

I’m biased, in that I think all parrots are beautiful. But good grief. Take a look at this beauty! I’ve got an Orange Winged Amazon, Mandolina, a.k.a. “Mandy.” Even so, to be redundant, all parrots hold a special place in my heart. Well, all birds for that matter. I saw some wonderful sea birds on my snorkeling excursions.

But, check this out. The incredible efforts that we are going through as a nation to bring back the Puerto Rican Amazon Parrot. El Yunque Rainforest, just a few miles from my hotel, the Wyndham Rio Mar, offers a conservation program. Oh, I bet you didn’t know this either. El Yunque is in 2nd place as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Unbelievable! That is until you see it. OMG.

You know, sad statistic is that there are only about 295 Puerto Rican Amazons counting both captive and wild populations. But as a nation, we’re pulling it together to bring this wonderful parrot back. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service maintains a El Yunque has a Puerto Rican Parrot nursery. Puerto Rico celebrates these parrots. In fact, the municipal of Rio Grande boasts statues of Puerto Rican Parrots at the entry and exit of the town off of Hwy 3. They are actively trying to re-introduce this beautiful parrot back into our only American Rainforest.

I don’t know about you, but I’m an avid ecology advocate. I want my son and his kids to experience a clean, diverse, and rich world. Including the Puerto Rican Amazon Parrot. So, as you read this blog update, please consider the journey that your particular parrots’ ancestors have had to endure. Respect their unique diversity and personalities. Appreciate and enrich their captive existence. So, if you have a parrot as a pet, here is what you can do:

Wingabago Bird Carriers In Stock Now!

New and improved! Literally, the best bird carrier on the market, the Wingabago is back in production and ready to ship!

So, what makes the Wingabago the best Bird Carrier on the market? Well, as owners of www.birdsupplies.com, we’ve tried ‘em all. We use our regular & large Wingabago Bird Carriers all of the time. With 7 parrots, ya never know when someone may have weird poop that we should observe or some other issue that requires us to isolate our pet or provide specialized treatment – such as warmth or hand-feeding. Thankfully it’s not every day. But, we must have a small, bird safe cage with inter-changable perches to meet the needs of our flock when we need it. That’s why we keep both our large and regular sized Wingabago Bird Carrier’s clean, handy and ready to use.

This clear, bird safe carrier allows us to observe our precious pet without disturbing it. We can easily examine bird poop or apply warmth or even a specialized diet in this bird carrier, aka avian hospital cage. More than a hospital cage, some of our parrots love the Wingabago as a sleep cage.
